Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Fritz Haug: Kritik der Warenästhetik

Eine Veranstaltung des Masterstudiengangs "Ökonomische und Soziologische Studien" und des "Zentrum für Ökonomische und Soziologische Studien" (ZÖSS). 4. November 2009, Fachbereich Sozialökonomie (ehem. HWP)

Als 1971 Wolfgang Fritz Haugs „Kritik der Warenästhetik“ erschien, löste sie eine intensive Diskussion aus und wurde sogar einem TV-Film zugrundegelegt. Das Buch wurde, mit einer Einführung von Stuart Hall, ins Englische und viele andere Sprachen übersetzt. Seither haben sich Produktions- und Lebensweise ebenso einschneidend verändert wie die Weltlage. Die überarbeitete und um ein „Zweites Buch“ erweiterte Neuauflage in der Edition Suhrkamp (2009) entwickelt die Analyse weiter in den Hightech-Kapitalismus.

Untersucht wird, wie die Warenästhetik auf die Sinnlichkeit und das Sinnverständnis einwirkt. „Wie verändert sich jemand, der fortwährend erhält, was er wünscht – aber es vor allem als Schein erhält?“ Um diese Veränderungen, in denen die Situation des auf den Konsumenten reduzierten Menschen im Hightech-Kapitalismus fassbar wird, geht es im Vortrag.

„Kritik der Warenästhetik richtet sich nicht gegen die Verschönerung bestimmter Dinge, ergeht sich schon gar nicht in Genussfeindschaft. Sondern sie zeigt, wie eine losgelassene Funktion des Kapitalismus mit der Macht einer Naturkatastrophe durch die sinnliche Welt fegt.“
