Explaining the Success of Right-Wing Populists in Poland

Im Fokus der Vortragsreihe stehen die Entwicklungen in der Europäischen Gemeinschaft nach Großbritanniens Referendum zum Ausstieg aus der EU. In vielen Europäischen Ländern konnten rechtspopulistische Parteien in den vergangenen Wahlen deutlich an Stimmen hinzugewinnen und die Verhandlungen um den Austritt Großbritanniens aus der Europäischen Union stehen nach dem britischen Referendum im vergangenen Juni noch vollkommen am Anfang.

Die Veranstaltung beleuchtet sowohl die Folgen für den Europäischen Integrationsprozess, als auch das Erstarken rechtspopulistischer Parteien in vielen europäischen Staaten. Um eine umfangreiche Debatte des Themas von verschiedenen Blickwinkeln aus zu ermöglichen, kommen neben bekannten WissenschaftlerInnen auch ParlamentarierInnen des Europäischen Parlaments und weitere praxisnahe Beobachter (z.B. Think-Tank-VertreterInnen) zu Wort.

Prof. Dr. Markowski wird sich in seinem Vortrag (auf Englisch) kritisch mit den Entwicklungen in Polen und Ungarn auseinandersetzen und dabei fragen, inwieweit in diesen Ländern zu schnell von einer Konsolidierung der Demokratie ausgegangen wurde.
