Edvard und May-Britt Moser entdeckten bei Experimenten mit Ratten spezielle Nervenzellen im Hirn, die den Tieren eine genaue Orientierung im Raum ermöglichen. Die dabei gewonnenen Erkenntnisse könnten Alzheimer-Patienten eines Tages helfen, ihren eingeschränkten Orientierungssinn zu verbessern.

Das norwegische Hirnforscherehepaar erhält für seine Arbeiten, die erstmalig eine abstrakte Denkleistung auf zellulärer Ebene im Gehirn messbar machen, den mit 750.000 Euro dotierten Körber-Preis für die Europäische Wissenschaft 2014.
